Anticipating Summer Tanlines

"The days get longer and the nights smell green.
I guess it's not surprising but it's spring and I should leave."
*Modest Mouse

Last week, I woke up one morning in a panic. My summer vacation loomed before me, and I wasn’t the least bit excited about it. Ok, well, I was a bit excited about the thought of not waking up at 5:37(ish!) every morning, but I wasn’t excited about how empty it looked. Normally, lunch dates with friends, work-outs with my brother, delving into my, “to read” list, and turning into my extra crispy brown self (as opposed to light brown winter alex) are all the vision I need for a "perfect summer." However, recently, my spiritual side has been nagging me, as has my dormant wanderlust.

More is the word that whispers to me day and night.

One night, while driving and browsing facebook (I know! I'm going to stop...soon) More came in the way of this...

I had been following her group's Thailand Journey for the last few months and just loved their vison, their purpose, and the heart behind their work. They researched and brainstormed for a way to invest in the lives of the Burmese people in the border town of Mae Sot. Through this, they opened a burger joint to employ and train Burmese people to continue the business after them.
Local sustainability long after they leave; I LOVE that!

While I admired away, I didn't feel inclined to go, until Ashley's  response email sent my heart reeling! They are starting Educational projects in Burma and for Burmese refugees in Thailand.

Sooo, for 6 weeks this summer,
I will partner with Kingdom Inc. Ministries as part of a group of teachers, who will research and brainstorm alongside local missionaries and NGOs on various educational opportunities/projects!

These projects, which we will help design and implement, will continue to be run by locals and longterm missionaries long after we leave.

I am excited, folks. I had no idea that a trip like this was on my horizon. I'm thankful to the Lord to serve in His name for a purpose that enables me to do what I love, and the opportunity to partner with people with common passions. I'll keep you updated as I learn more and throughout the SIX WEEK TRIP!

I guess I'll take the dreaded tanlines with a smile.

  1. Love it!! So excited for you and really jealous! I'm considering a week mission trip overseas (not sure I can handle even that long away from my little girl), but this would be sooo cool. I can't wait to hear more about it! Miss you, Sarah Barnett

    1. Thanks, Sarah! I'd love to travel together again, maybe someday! :) I do hope you get to go on your trip; I know how much your heart is in overseas missions.
